As noted at Houston Chronicle on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, Greg Rubar, a waiter at D’Amico’s Italian Market Cafe for 16 years received the $5,000 gift from a couple last Saturday, whom he has been serving for the past eight years.

According to the report, the couple, who wished to remain anonymous and knew what happened to his car, insisted to give to him the $5,000 cash which consists of 50 pieces of crisp $100 bills, despite him being reluctant to receive it.

“He said, ‘I’m not going to be giving you a tip for awhile. Take this money. Go buy yourself a car.'” Rubar told the report, noting that restaurant owners Nash D’Amico and Brina D’Amico Donaldson were kind enough to loan him a catering truck when not in use.

“What this tells me is that there are people out there willing to help people. We have customers who care about us and have a relationship beyond ‘May I take your order please?'” Brina D’Amico was quoted as saying, noting that the two customers are very humble.

Rubar, who has a wife and a young child, reportedly received the said money inside an envelope when the couple paid for their food worth $26.95, which they gave him separate money for the bill. He said he is now searching for a new car to buy from the $5,000 gift.
