The Crystal Lagoons Corp. developed the world’s largest outdoor pool at the San Alfonso del Mar resort in Algarrobo, Chile, according to reports by several international news sites on Friday, May 18, 2012.

Reports say that the Crystal Lagoon measures over half of a mile long or about 3,323 feet. Crystal Lagoon is reportedly the world’s deepest pool at 115 feet and filled with 66 million gallons of water. The Crystal Lagoon Corporation explained that the water being used in the pool is directly taken from the sea using filtration method.

The size of the outdoor pool is even larger than 20 Olympic-sized pools that measures 164-by-82-feet each. It was even six times bigger than the Orthlieb Pool in Casablanca, Morocco.

Annual maintenance of the Crystal Lagoon reportedly costs over $3 million.

The man-made Crystal Lagoon in Chile, which overlooks the Chilean central coast in the city of Algarrobo, will be an additional attraction to its two million tourists. Chile already boasts of several natural tourist attractions that include lakes, parks and beaches.

The construction of the Crystal Lagoon reportedly took more than five years and costs over $1.2 billion.
