“We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.” A statement from 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Broadcasting Company reads.
Vancouver police held a news conference, saying that the 31-year old Canadian actor was found lifeless inside a room in the 21st floor of Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel. A video footage from the hotel showed that he returned to his room alone on early Saturday morning. He checked in into the hotel on Saturday, July 6.
Local authorities said they believe the actor was alone when he died. The cause of death was given and still under thorough investigation, but investigators suspect that there was no foul play involved. Cory Monteith plays as Finn Hudson in the Fox‘ Glee, which is set for Season 5 this September.
Hours before his death, Cory Monteith (@CoryMonteith) tweeted to his more than 1.64 million Twitter followers, “Oh. It’s Shark Tornado.” Hotel staff discovered his body after checking his room because he missed his check-out time.
His longtime girlfriend and Glee co-star Lea Michele has not yet tweeted, nor released a statement about his death. Monteith won the Top Actor award in a comedy in Teen Choice Award 2011, but entered a rehab last March due to substance abuse.
