CONCACAF Gold Cup 2011 Continues, US to Face Canada in Detroit Amidst CONCACAF Acting President’s Suspension

The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football, CONCACAF Gold Cup 2011 continues amidst, Lisle Austin, its acting president’s suspension. Alfredo Hawit the former vice-president, will act as president, while the “issue” has not been resolved yet. This is according to international sports news, June 4.

The Gold Cup will open in Detroit, with the United States playing against Canada in Detroit. Reportedly if the US wins the Gold Cup it will earn the right to be in the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil.  Regional champions from Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania and South America will also be part of the contest. Brazil will also be in the running.

The Gold Cup 2011 in the European group H is headed by Portugal when it has beaten Norway out of the contest.  Apparently, the Confederations Cup in Brazil in 2013 would be a goal for all teams to do their best. For the US, it is to win against Spain in a friendly face-off first.
