“I wish to offer the people of New York a sincere, humble, and unconditional apology. During a natural disaster that threatened the entire city, I made a series of irresponsible and inaccurate tweets.” Shashank Tripathi (@ComfortablySmug) tweeted that day.

“While some would use the anonymity and instant feedback of social media as an excuse, I take full responsibility of my actions. I deeply regret any distress of harm they may cause. I have resigned from the congressional campaign of Christopher Wight, effective immediately.” Shashank Tripathi added.

“I’m so pleased to announce that Nick Mackey will take over as Campaign Manager as Chief of Staff he has been an invaluable asset to the campaign by leading the team and delivering my message of job creation and economic recovery.” Wight wrote on his official website, adding that he has accepted Tripathi‘s resignation.

According to Buzzfeed, which was believed to be first one to reveal his identity, Tripathi sent several ‘Breaking’ news tweets on the latest update of Superstorm Sandy, including the claim that “the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) was under more than 3 feet of water,” which was retweeted many times.

Apparently, the said NYSE flooding claim was also reported in major US news including CNN, but was proven not true, and corrected their report. ComfortablySmug later tweeted that the report is not true and that NYSE is not flooded.
