As noted at local news on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, CJ Corona, who was supposed to return to the Senate hearing for his ongoing impeachment trial that afternoon, was brought to Medical City in Pasig on Tuesday night and was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) the next morning.

In the early afternoon, attending doctors appeared in a mini press conference and announced that CJ Corona is being strongly advised to remain in the said hospital for 48 hours, so they can closely monitor his health condition for a possible heart attack.

On Tuesday, CJ Corona spoke for around three hours before the Senate on the 40th day of his impeachment trial hearing and denied all accusations against him, and noted that he will submit a waiver allowing the BIR, SEC, AMLC, and LRA to look into his bank accounts and other assets.

However, he added that he will only submit it if all the 188 complainants and Senator Franklin Drilon will submit their own waivers, and later asked himself to be excused and left the session hall even without being discharged yet.

On Wednesday afternoon, defense counsel Serafin Cuevas told Senator Enrile that CJ Corona may return to the hearing on Monday but noted that there was “no assurance”. The Senate President replied by saying that his client should return on Friday, May 25 and that the oral arguments will be on Monday, May 28.

Meanwhile, there were mixed reactions when CJ Corona left abruptly after his speech, who returned later on a wheelchair, as some observers said that his action, which angered Senator Enrile, is a direct disrespect to the Senate and that he intentionally walked out to avoid himself being cross-examined.
