As shown live at local networks that day, the 23 senators, including Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile announced their verdict on the Article 2 of the Corona impeachment trial and were given unlimited time to explain their reasons for their vote one by one.

As noted in their earlier report, prosecutors needed 16 of the 23 senator-judges, or two-thirds, to vote for conviction to impeach CJ Corona, and therefore, it means that the defense team needed only 8 votes to acquit him.

Last Friday, CJ Corona appeared before the Senate for the second time and apologized on his abrupt leaving from the witness stand two days earlier, and later admitted that he has $2.4 million cash in 4 dollar accounts in exchange rate earnings and another P80 million in co-mingled funds via 3 peso accounts.

That day, the 63-year old Chief Justice also submitted a waiver but denied the allegations of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales that he has 82 bank accounts amounting to $10 million-$12 million, adding that he thinks that she allowed herself to be used by Malacanang; and later ask her to resign from her post.

Among the senators who voted CJ Corona as guilty are Sen Juan Edgardo Angara, Sen Alan Peter Cayetano, Sen Pia Cayetano, Sen Franklin Drilon, Sen Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero, Sen Jinggoy Estrada, Sen Teofisto Guingona III, Sen Gringo Honasan, Sen Panfilo Lacson, Sen Lito Lapid, Sen Loren Legarda, Sen Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Sen Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan, Sen Koko Pimentel, Sen Ralph Recto, Sen Ramon ‘Bong’ Revilla, Sen Tito Sotto, Sen Antonio Trillanes IV, Sen Manny Villar, and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.

On the other hand, those who voted to acquit Chief Justice are Sen Joker Arroyo, Sen Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, and Sen Miriam Defensor Santiago, who noted that omission of Corona‘s $2.4 million and P80 million deposits in his SALN (Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth) was not an impeachable offense.
