As shown in live broadcast by ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) that day, CJ Corona was seen appearing again in the Senate and apologized for his sudden exit last Tuesday and denied accusations that he walked out.

“Hindi madali ang pinagdaanan namin, particular ako nitong huling anim na buwan. Hindi po ako bastos na tao, siguro yung pagka-disorient ko lang…I was in total state of confusion…I was ready to throw up.” CJ Corona said, which Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile acknowledged.

(What happened to us is not easy, particularly the last six months. I am not rude, but maybe quite disoriented.)

As reported earlier, CJ Corona was given by a deadline until today, Friday, to return to the Senate impeachment trial court, after he abruptly left the witness stand last Tuesday after speaking for about three hours, where he denied all the accusations against him.

That day, the 63-year old SC Chief Justice said he is willing to submit a waiver allowing the BIR, SEC, AMLC, and LRA to look into all of his dollar and peso bank accounts and other assets, provided that all the 188 complainants and Senator Franklin Drilon will submit their own waivers, too.

When the night came, CJ Corona was brought to Medical City in Pasig and was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) the next morning, and his doctors said that he should remain in the said hospital for 48 hours, so they can closely monitor his health condition for a possible heart attack.

Apparently, Mrs Cristina Corona, wife of CJ Corona, was seen approaching the Basa family during the temporary recess of the impeachment trial and later seen hugging each other, after long years of apparent misunderstanding about the shares in Basa Guidote Enterprises Inc. (BGEI).

When the impeachment trial resumed, CJ Corona answered questions from some of the senator-judges particularly from Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Senator Franklin Drilon, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero; and admitted that he has $2.4 million and P80 million in dollar and peso bank accounts.

At around 5 p.m., CJ Corona, through his defense lawyer Serafin Cuevas, requested to be discharged, citing health reasons; and was approved by the Senate President, who later said the oral argument will be on Monday, May 28, and the verdict will be announced immediately after.
