According to the description on the YouTube video which has now nearly 1.45 million views, Chris Cornell performed the song during an Obama 2012 rally at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco.

“I just learned this, so when I mess it up, forgive me.” The 47-year old Soundgarden lead vocalist was quoted telling to the audience before he sang, with the event happening last Thursday, February 16.

Apparently, Cornell strummed his guitar and gave an acoustic version of “I Will Always Love You“, which the audience applauded afterwards; and is now being considered as one of the best renditions of the song.

The song “I Will Always Love You” was originally sang and written by Dolly Parton back in 1974 and was sang by Whitney Houston and included as the sound track for her 1992 movie hit “The Bodyguard” opposite Kevin Costner.

Nevertheless, other singers also performed the song to honor Houston, who was found dead on February 11, which includes Jennifer Hudson who sang it during the recent Grammy 2012.

Meanwhile, Amber Riley also performed “I Will Always Love You” in Glee‘s Valentine’s Day episode but it was only a very rare coincidence since it was recorded prior to Whitney Houston‘s death.

On the other hand, a video of Charice Pempengco singing the same song went viral recently and was believed to be her own tribute to the 6-time Grammy Award winner, as she was seen crying after the performance.

However, the Filipino YouTube sensation later clarified it was an old performance but vowed to make her own Whitney Houston tribute in a concert in Asia which is being planned to be held soon.
