Cholera epidemic claims 220 lives in Haiti as of  October 24, as the outbreak takes its toll.  According to Dr. Jocelyne Pierre-Louis of the Health Ministry, the situation has been controlled and people should not panic but should observe strict hygienic measures. This was announced even as 3,000 cholera patients were admitted to various health institutions.

As the cholera epidemic raged in Haiti, the United Nations was given authority to distribute donations from different organizations like the Aids Agencies, the US and Canada. Although Pan-Am Health Organization Deputy Director Jon Andrus was not optimistic that the cholera epidemic is already under control, Haiti’s Health Minister, Alex Larsen said that they are doing their best to attend to the cholera outbreak patients.
