The similarities between the China stealth fighter J-20 and Russia‘s shelved Mikoyan 1.44 stealth jet has raised speculations of a secret ChinaRussia joint arms development project, according to reports by several international news sites on Thursday, August 18, 2011.

J-20 is China‘s fifth-generation fighter jet and reportedly made its initial flight last January of this year.

Meanwhile, Mikoyan 1.44 stealth jet is Russia‘s project with the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) that never made it into production.

According to independent analyst Adil Mukashev, the similarities between the two jet fighters suggests that “China bought the technology for parts, including the tail of the Mikoyan, for money.”

UAC denied that Mikoyan technology or design transfer were provided to the Chinese.

The development of a stealth fighter jet is very important for China as this will place them into an elite group of military powers.
