A chemical plant explosion in Alsip injured 2 people on Friday, several Chicago news sites reported.
According to reports, the explosion caused a fire at the Blue Island Phenol with one building destroyed and another damaged.
It was also reported that businesses to the west of the plant were evacuated. Evacuation were made due to the chemicals produced at the plant, which could affect the environment and the people nearby. However, classes at Eisenhower High School which is about a half-mile away were not suspended.
The fire was extinguished at around 2:20pm, reports said. Meanwhile, the two people injured was said to be workers of the plant. They were now in stable condition in Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
Blue Island Phenol manufactures acetone and phenol, reports said.
