Charice Pempengco receives 2010 BPInoy award

Teen Icon of Tomorrow, Charice Pempengco, is one of the recipients of the 5th BPInoy award given by the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), as reported by ABS-CBN today, November 26, 2010.

BPInoy Award aims to recognize Filipinos for their contribution in giving pride and honor for the country as they excel in their fields at the international level.

The Filipina international singing sensation, however, failed to attend the awarding ceremony due to earlier international commitments. Just recently, Charice had a free live concert at the Citadel Mall in Los Angeles, CaliforniaGrace Mendoza, her manager, received the award in the absence of Charice.

The awarding ceremony was held at the Makati Shangri-La on FridayNovember 26, 2010. Through a short video, Charice thanked BPI for choosing her as one of this year’s awardee.

Dr. Manuel Cacdac is the other BPInoy awardee. He is the founding chairman of the board of the Hydrocephalus Foundation of the Philippines. Cacdac has been providing free hydrocephalus operations in poor local communities in the Philippines and the rest of the world.

  • Monique Lhuiller and Josie Natori — international fashion designers,
  • Diosdado Banatao — US-based technology entrepreneur,
  • Dr. George Garcia — heart surgeon,
  • Rico Hizon – first Filipino BBC anchor,
  • Dr. Eli Romolona — chief representative for the Asia and the Pacific of the Bank for International Settlements, and
  • Anita Magsaysay-Ho —  painter.
