Cat food recall 2013: Diamond Pet Foods recalls cat food in 25 US states and Canada (Product List)

Diamond Pet Foods announced a cat food recall on Sunday, March 10, 2013 in 25 US states and Canada, citing a possibility of containing low levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1). The issue has been coordinated with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the complete list of affected products is available below.

According to a press release at that day, the cat food recall involves certain quantities of Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat Formula, Premium Edge Senior Cat Hairball Management Formula, Premium Edge Kitten Formula, Diamond Naturals Kitten Formula, and 4health All Life Stages Cat Formula.

As noted in the announcement, tests results revealed that the recalled products might contain low levels of Vitamin B1. The company emphasized that there were no reports of related cat illness due to the recall, and no other products are involved other than those mentioned in the list.

“At Diamond Pet Foods, we have a process where we continuously test our products, and this process allowed us to find the undesired levels of thiamine in some of our cat formulas.” Michele Evans, Ph.D., Diamond Pet Foods Executive Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance, was quoted at

In the event an error occurs, we have the data to quickly alert pet owners, giving them the confidence they demand of a pet food manufacturer.” Dr. Evans added, noting that all Diamond Pet Foods products have been tested.

The products were distributed to Alabama, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia. Ontario and Quebec, Canada are also included.
