As noted in the press release by General Motors (GM) on its official press site that day, a panel of 49 automotive judges from across Canada and US have chosen the 2013 Cadillac ATS to be the Car of the Year 2013 in a press conference during the opening the 25th Annual NAIAS in Detroit, Michigan.
“This is a very meaningful honor for the entire Cadillac team, especially the men and women who build the ATS in Lansing, Michigan, and our dedicated and talented designers and engineers.” Bob Ferguson, GM Vice President of Cadillac Global, was quoted in the report. The new ATS was released to dealers in late 2012.
“A car like ATS is the result of incredible commitment and focus. That’s the only method for creating a great performing luxury car.” Ferguson added, with the new Cadillac ATS being noted to be the lightest car in its class with a unique architecture and was designed for nimble driving performance.
On the other hand, Chrysler‘s 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 won the 2013 Truck/Utility of the Year award, and was also chosen by the same panel of judges, which includes automotive journalists and broadcasters during a year-long selection process. The three finalists for both categories were picked last month.
“For the Ram truck brand, this ranks as one of the proudest days in our history. Every truck maker aspires to win the North American Truck/Utility of the Year.” Fred Diaz, President and CEO of Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico, was quoted during the announcement.
“I tip my hat to the folks who worked behind the scenes to make the 2013 Ram 1500 a technological triumph. You can’t every rest on your laurels and say it’s time to relax. There’s never time to relax.” Diaz added, noting that Chrysler still has a lot of work ahead to ensure that their cars and trucks are competitive.
The 2013 Cadillac ATS beat the 2013 Ford Fusion and 2013 Honda Accord for the 2013 North American Car of the Year, while the 2013 Ram 1500 pickup won against the 2013 Ford C-Max and the 2013 Mazda CX-5 for the North American Truck/Utility of the Year 2013 award.
