As noted at US news sites that day, Cartoon Network’s “Captain Planet and the Planeteers” will be made into a film and is currently being discussed with Angry Filmworks.

“The messages of Captain Planet are even more relevant today,” Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) Inc.’s Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media division (AYAKM) COO and president Stuart Snyder reportedly said.

“We feel this team can bring the world’s first eco-hero to life in a powerful motion picture that is not only pertinent but entertaining.” Snyder added, who is now in a development deal with producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford.

Don Murphy and Angry Filmworks are known for the highly successful action-adventure “Transformers” franchise movies back in 2007 and 2009, as well as in this year’s “Transformers: Dark of the Moon“.

“We are extremely excited about bringing the good Captain back to life,” Murphy was quoted as saying, who worked with Montford as co-producer of the upcoming film “Real Steel“, starring Hugh Jackman, which is set for release on October 7, 2011.

The animated series “Captain Planet and the Planeteers” was created by Ted Turner and Robert Larkin III, which centers on five super kids from different countries, who fight environmental disasters.

Apparently, the superhero “Captain Planet” appears when the superpowers of the “Planeteers” are being combined, with the catchphrase, “The power is yours!”

The “Captain Planet” cartoon series was aired at TBS in 1990 with six episodes and also featured the voice of Whoopi Goldberg, as Gaia, the spirit of the Earth.
