Canon U.S.A., Inc. unveiled today, Wednesday, August 29, 2012 its two new cameras, the EOS C500 4K Digital Cinema Camera and the EOS C100 Digital Video Camera, which now join Canon‘s Cinema EOS System series. Both models promise exceptional image creation capabilities for cinemas and the like.

According to a press release by Canon USA on its official website, the EOS C500 camera will be the flagship camera model in Canon‘s Cinema EOS System while the EOS C100 video camera aims to provide another option for beginners in filmmaking who work on a tight budget. The Cinema EOS System is also offering seven EF Cinema lens models.

“We developed the Cinema EOS C500 digital cinema camera to deliver the benefits of full 4K motion capture to Hollywood‘s premier filmmakers, while the C100 is designed for economical productions that need sophisticated HD capabilities and optical lens diversity.” Yuichi Ishizuka, EVP and GM, Imaging Technologies and Communications Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. was quoted in the report.

“As we said in November of 2011, the C300 was just the beginning to our Cinema EOS system and we now offer a more complete system of imaging solutions with a range of cameras for every level of production,” Ishizuka added, with Canon aiming to expand its contribution to cinematic culture.

For the specifications, the Canon EOS C500 4K Digital Cinema Camera is a high-end professional 4K (4096 x 2160-pixel) cinema camera capable of originating uncompressed RAW output for external recording, and will be available in both EF- and PL-mount versions; being set for release this October worth $30,000 (ELP).

On the other hand, the Canon C100 Digital Video Camera is a compact, entry-level model delivering full 1920×1080 HD video and integrating the famous AVCHD codec. It will be offered in EF mount only and will be compatible with the more than 70 zoom and prime lenses in Canon’s EF, EF-S, and EF Cinema lens lineups.

In addition, this new Canon digital video camera, which is approximately 85% of the size of the EOS C300 model and is being set for release this coming November for $7,999 (ELP), can output uncompressed digital HD to an external recording device via its locking HDMI connector.
