A coral reef in Calatagan, Batangas was reportedly damaged by a cargo vessel that is transporting plywood the afternoon of Sunday, September 19, 2010.

MV Hummer H1 cargo vessel miscalculated its position that caused it to run ashore at the coral reef near the Calatagan pier.  Based on the investigation conducted by the Philippine Coast Guard, the 1,400-ton vessel plowed the marine reserve and suffered major damage on the starboard and port bows.  The MV Hummer hit the coral reef with approximately 200 meters in length and with a span of 75 meters.

A thorough  investigation of the incident will be conducted by the local government and charges are being prepared against the owner of the vessel.
