British actor Henry Cavill is the next Superman, The Man of Steel

British actor Henry Cavill is the new Superman, as announced by Warner Bros on Sunday, and was published at international entertainment news sites.

Henry Cavill, 27, was said to have chosen by Warner Bros. to portray as Clark Kent in the new Superman movie (The Man of Steel) which is schedule for release on December 2012, and will be directed by Zach Synder.

Unknown to many, Henry Cavill played the role as Charles Brandon in the Showtime drama series ‘The Tudors’ from 2007 to 2010. He is also set to star in the upcoming film Immortals which has a scheduled showing on November 11, 2011.

The last Superman film (Superman Returns) was released in 2006, which was directed by Bryan Singer, with Brandon Routh as Superman, while the late Christopher Reeves had a series of Superman movies back in the 70s and 80s.

As of this writing, the choice of actress to portray the role of Lois Lane is not yet announced.

Below is the official statement from Warner Bros about Henry Cavill as being cast in the new film Superman: The Man of Steel.

BURBANK, CA, January 30, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Henry Cavill has won the coveted role of Superman, the iconic superhero.

The film will be directed by Zack Snyder, who stated, “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
