Boston Celtics wins vs Miami Heat in NBA 2010-11 Opening Night Game

The Boston Celtics hold off the Miami Heat‘s fierce rally in the fourth quarter to win the NBA 2010-11 Regular Season opener, 88-80. Ray Allen topscored for Celtics by pouring in  20 points and the needed three point shot that stop the Miami rally. Paul Pierce added 19 points for the Boston. Rajon Rondo orchestrated the game for the Celtics with 17 assists. LeBron James had 31 points, but, committed eight turnovers for Miami. Dwyane Wade only scored 13 points for the Heat.

The dynamic duo of Miami HeatLeBron James and Dwyane Wade, had a shaky start in the team’s first game of the NBA 2010-11 Regular Season. The two Heat superstars accounted for all six of the team’s turnovers in the first quarter. This enable the Celtics to close out the first quarter 16-9.

Miami coach Erik Spoelstera was called for a technical foul for excessive reaction against a travelling call on Wade, who missed his first six shots of the game. Wade got his first field goal two minutes into the second quarter. Playing good defense, the Boston raced to a 25-13 lead early in the second quarter. The Heat shot a measly 11 of 41 field goals at halftime compared with the Celtics, 17 of 38. The Celtics ended the first half with a 15 point lead over the Heat, 45-30.

The Celtics raced to a bigger lead, 50-32, early in the third quarter behind Shaquille O’Neal’s big game. O’Neal played a good game for Boston as he scored nine points. The Diesel received a standing ovation when he made his first two free throws as a Celtic. O’Neal has a career free throw average of 53%. James tried to bring back the Heat single-handedly late in the third as he scored seven straight points. A scoop shot of James cut down the lead of the Celtics, 63-57 at the end of the third quarter.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Heat got to within five points, 66-61, behind the Celtics. With only 1:10 remaining in the game, James scored on a driving layup to bring down the lead to three, 83-80. But Allen had other things in mind by scoring a key three pointer.

Both teams will play again tomorrow against different opponents. Miami Heat will play against the Philadelphia 76ers, 7p.m. ET. Boston Celtics will face the Cleveland Cavaliers, 7p.m. ET.
