Book of Mormon and Al Pacino lead the list of 2011 Tony Awards nominations

Al Pacino and ‘The Book of Mormon‘ are leading on the list of the 2011 Tony Awards nominations, which was announced on Tuesday, May 03, 2011.

The announcement was made by Tony Awards previous winners Matthew Broderick and Anika Noni Rose.

As reported at Tony Awards’ official website, Al Pacino is nominated for Best Performance of an actor in a leading role for the play ‘The Merchant of Venice‘.

Pacino will be competing against Brian Bedford, Bobby Cannavale, Joe Mantello and Mark Rylance, in which the 2011 Tony Awards will be aired at CBS this coming June 12.

Meanwhile, the play ‘The Book of Mormon‘ has 14 nominations including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Musical Score.

On the other hand, the play ‘The Scottsboro Boys‘ has 12 nominations which include almost the same as the ‘The Book of Mormon‘ except for Best Performance of an Actress in a featured role and Best Costume Design.

Later reports revealed that Neil Patrick Harris will be the host of the 2011 Tony Awards (63rd annual Tony Awards), who was also the host of the 2009 Tony Awards.
