Bolivian president Evo Morales knees a political rival in groin during a friendly football match, and was caught on video.

Morales, now 50, who was wearing a No 10 green jersey, was reportedly leading his team against the yellow team led by La Paz mayor Luis Revilla, and belongs to a political party opposing the president.

The supposed friendly game is to inaugurate a renovated stadium in La Paz, the country’s capital, which was held on Sunday, and was aired live in local TV.

The kneeing incident by the Bolivian president was reportedly after his leg was allegedly hit by Daniel Gustavo Cartagena, an opposition leader wearing the No 2 jersey and playing for the mayor’s team.

The video, which was posted at YouTube, showed the president as he knees Cartagena in his groin that caused him to crumple into the ground.

“I passed the ball and, suddenly, I got hit, and not for the first time,” Morales said after the game, while showing to photographers his leg injury.

The match ended in a draw at 4-4, where two players from each side had been sent off, including one bodyguard of the president and Gustavo Cartagena.

Reports say that a medical bulletin from the Bolivian government was released, and saying that President Morales received a laceration inside his right leg and was recommended by the doctor to a three to four days rest.
