Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers was given a flagrant-one foul by the NBA for shoving Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol, according to a report by the LA Times on Friday, April 6, 2012.

The Griffin penalty was a result of the NBA‘s review of the last Clippers versus Lakers game on Wednesday, April 4. The Lakers asked the league to review three plays involving ClippersBlake Griffin and Pau Gasol.

According to the NBA report, the referees made the right calls except for Griffin‘s third-quarter shove from behind of Gasol.

The LA Times reported that when Gasol learned of the NBA reversal, he jokingly asked, “Can they take the dunk back too?” He was referring to the third quarter dunk of Griffin wherein his left forearm hit Gasol’s face.

The following are the plays where Lakers Coach Mike Brown requested for a review from the NBA.

  • First quarter – Griffin jumped to grab the ball in the air and dunk a shot over Gasol
  • Third quarter – Griffin receives a bounce pass from Caron Butler and had one-handed dunk over Gasol. The Lakers forward hit Griffin with his right arm but Griffin accidentally hit Gasol in the face with his forearm.

Earlier this season, Griffin has reportedly gotten away from a technical foul, for shoving Lakers rookie Darius Morris in mid-air last January 14.
