Research in Motion (RIM), maker of Blackberry, recently announced that it has promoted COO Thorsten Heins as its new CEO, according to reports by several international news sites on Monday, January 23, 2012.

The Blackberry company has replaced its co-Chairmen and co-CEO’s, Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, who will stay as RIM‘s board of directors.

Analysts, however, were reportedly pessimistic about RIM‘s recent reshuffling of its top management. Many technology analysts explained that the CEO swap will not be the only solution to RIM‘s decline.

Based on a recent NPD Group research, RIM‘s smartphone market share in the US has gone down from 44 percent in 2009 to just 10 percent in 2011. RIM has 75 million active subscribers.
