Bartonsville covered bridge in the state of Vermont was completely destroyed during the onslaught of Hurricane Irene, according to reports by several international news sites on Friday, September 2, 2011.

The historic covered bridge, which collapsed over the Williams River in Rockingham, Vermont, is one of two structures that was severely hit by Hurricane Irene.

Hurricane Irene brought massive flooding that led to the closure of about 250 roads. According to Governor Peter Shumlin, the flood in Vermont is the worst in 75 years or “perhaps ever.”
