Baron Davis of the New York Knicks will undergo surgery within the week for his torn anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his right knee, according to a report at NBA.com on Monday, May 7, 2012. The Knicks are currently down 1-3 against the Miami Heat in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

Davis‘ injury is considered as a potential career-threatening injury for the 33-year-old Knicks‘ point guard. He is expected to be out of the NBA games for a year due to a partial tear in his patella tendon.

Reports say that Davis injured his knee in the third quarter of Game 4’s NBA Playoffs first round series between New York and Miami. The Knicks won the game, 89-87 over Miami, but lost Davis due to the injury.

Unable to stand and walk, Davis was taken off the court on a stretcher.

In his 13th season, the two-time All Star, Davis has averaged 16.1 points.
