Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Election 2010 was postponed in 3 Isabela towns due to Typhoon Juan (or Megi), as announced by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Wednesday.

The announcement was made by Comelec Chairman Jose Armando Melo to local news networks, after a having a meeting with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in Camp Aguinaldo.

The 3 Isabela towns affected by the postponement of Barangay and SK election 2010 are Divilacan, Palanan, and Maconacon, according to Comelec Chairman Melo during an interview with local media.

The Comelec’s decision to postpone the said election came in after the recommendation of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) during their meeting today, local news networks said.

According to NDRRMC Executive Director Benito, the mentioned Isabela towns are ‘not accessible’.

While the Philippine law is saying a 30-day period is given by Comelec to hold a special election in case of postponement, Chairman Melo did not announced any specific date.

But Chairman Melo said it will be most likely within 15 days after the actual election which will be on October 25, Monday.

Meanwhile, the election hours in Kalinga, Apayao, Cagayan, and the rest of Isabela will be 6am ~ 2pm, instead of the original time which is 7am ~ 3pm.

The said announcement by Comelec was due to power shortage on these areas courtesy of Typhoon Juan.

By making the election hours earlier, the teachers will have more day light during the counting of votes, as explained by Chairman Melo to the media.
