US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle left for a European tour on Sunday, May 22, 2011, as reported earlier by several international news sites.

According to the reports, the US President departed for Ireland to explore his Irish roots and to visit England, France and Poland.

Obama was reported to be pressing his US allies to help advance the movement for democratic change offered by the “Arab spring” uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa.

It was also reported that Obama will have a business and pleasure stop in Ireland. He will be visiting a small village where some of his ancestors had lived. “I am expecting to go not only to all the famous sites, but also to go to Moneygall, where my great-great-great-great-great grandfather hails from,” Obama said in a statement.

After Ireland, Obama will go to Britain for a formal state dinner with Queen Elizabeth. He will then proceed to France to attend the Group of Eight summit before concluding his trip in Poland to meet Eastern European leaders.
