Bagyong Chedeng or Typhoon Chedeng may pour out heavy rains similar to the 2009 Typhoon Ondoy, according to a statement issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, Astronomical, and Services Administration (PAGASA).

The latest PAGASA weather forecast indicates that typhoon Chedeng is expected to bring rains about 20 to 55 millimeters per hour.

Storm Chedeng is expected to make a landfall in the Northern Luzon area on Wednesday night and will not directly hit Metro Manila.

According to a report by ABS-CBN, PAGASA raised public storm warning signals 1 in selected provinces that will be affected by tropical storm Chedeng.

Public storm warning signal No. 1 were raised in the following areas:

  • Catanduanes,
  • Sorsogon,
  • Northern Samar and
  • Eastern Samar.

According to the PAGASA Weather Forecast issued at 5 am today, May 24, 2011, Typhoon Chedeng is moving with maximum sustained winds of 105 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

As of 4 am, typhoon Chedeng is estimated at 540 kilometers east of Borongan, Eastern Samar.

By Wednesday morning, typhoon Chedeng is expected to reach 330 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.

On Thursday morning, tropical storm Chedeng is expected to be 210 kilometers east southeast of Casiguran, Aurora.
