A baby was delivered at an upstate zoo in the city of Syracuse, New York on Friday, December 7, 2012, according to a news report by the San Francisco Gate.
The baby girl was reportedly delivered by her 21-year-old mother near the bear exhibit of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo at the Burnet Park.
Liz Schmidt, a zoo educator, was reportedly one of the first who responded and helped deliver the baby. Zoo workers covered the mother and child with blankets to keep them warm.
Visitors who tried to get a glimpse of the delivery were reportedly herded away by a zoo elephant expert.
Shortly after the delivery, an ambulance arrived on the site and took the mom and her newborn to a hospital.
Reports say that zoo Director Ted Fox reveals that they will be sending a gift to the family.
