Azkals team manager Dan Palami wants the Philippines to host the qualifiers and finals matches of the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup, according to an ABS-CBNnews.com report on Saturday, March 17, 2012.

Palami reportedly believes that staging the next AFC Challenge Cup, will greatly promote football in the Philippines.

In a statement published at AFC.com, the Azkals manager said that he “will make a recommendation to PFF President Mariano “Nonong” Araneta that we host the qualifiers for tournament and the finals as well.” Palami adds that hosting the 2014 AFC Cup “will definitely be a huge boost for Philippine football.”

The Philippine Azkals is scheduled to play against Palestine on Monday, March 19 in a battle for third place in the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup. The Azkals lost to Turkmenistan, 2-1, and failed to enter the Finals of the tournament in Kathmandu.

In 2011, the Philippines hosted one AFC Challenge Cup qualifying game at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City where the Azkals won over Mongolia, 2-0.

According to Palami, the Philippines still have enough time to prepare the facilities needed for the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup.
