Washington DC Mayor Vincent Gray was released after being arrested last April 11 and being charged with unlawful assembly. Mayor Gray, 6 council members and some supporters were released 7 hours after their arrest. This was disclosed by international news sites, April 12, 2011.

Mayor Gray and Council members had blocked traffic by sitting down in the middle of the street. They were protesting against the compromise of holding back local taxes from paying abortions for indigent women and the city’s needle exchange program meant to prevent HIV transmission.

Gray stated after his release that he would continue “to fight the restrictions.”  DC Executive Director Ilir Zherka was also angry and has stated that they are not accepting the compromise.
