The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced in a press release published on their website dated April 21, 2011 the recall of aquarium heaters by United Pet Group due to fire and laceration hazards.

According to the press release, Marineland Stealth and Marineland Stealth Pro aquarium heaters are being voluntarily recalled by its importer, United Pet Group of Cincinnati, Ohio, due to a wiring problem that can cause the aquarium heaters to overheat or break during normal use. Overheating can cause the heater to shatter or the aquarium glass to break, posing fire and laceration hazards to consumers.

United Pet Group has reportedly received 38 reports of fires which resulted in property damage, 45 reports of broken aquarium glass and one report of a consumer who suffered an eye injury when the aquarium heater forcefully broke while he held it.
