The next Apple iPhone will be called iPhone 4S instead of the highly anticipated iPhone 5, according to reports by several technology news sites.

The anticipation on the release of the new Apple smartphone  grows with the speculation on its new name.

According to Peter Misek, Jefferies & Co. analyst, the new Apple iPhone, expected to be released in September instead of the usual June launch, will be called iPhone 4S.

Misek added that Apple will be announcing the “distribution deals for the iPhone with Sprint and T-Mobile in time for the holidays.”

Apple iPhone 4S, as Misek wrote, will have the following features:

  • dual-core A5 processor to keep up with other dual-core smartphones that includes Motorola Atrix 4G and HTC Sensation.
  • HSPA+ connectivity
  • minor changes on the physical appearance
  • improvement on the front and rear cameras

Misek added that LTE support will not be available yet in the Apple iPhone 4S due to “maturity” and design issue on LTE chipset from Qualcomm.
