As noted in a pdf press release at RegionalExpress.com.au on Friday, November 25, 2011, the iPhone started ’emitting a significant amount of dense smoke, accompanied by a red glow’.

According to the report, the incident took place shortly after Regional Express flight ZL319 landed and a flight attendant immediately reacted to stop the ‘red glow’ and was extinguished successfully.

No passenger or crew was hurt during the incident and the cause of combustion was not known. The Regional Express (Rex) plane was noted to be flying from Lismore to Sydney when it happened.

Nevertheless, the iPhone was endorsed to Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) for analysis and the incident was also reported to Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for further investigation.

As of this writing, there is no update yet about the mysterious incident and no one would speculate if it is related to the battery problem recently being experienced by some iPhone users.
