As aired on ABC on Thursday morning, Ann Romney appeared on ‘The View‘ and was interviewed by Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Sherri Shepherd, and Barbara Walters. Mitt Romney‘s wife wore her traditional red dress and bravely answered the tough questions by the show hosts.
Apparently, Mitt Romney was supposed to speak for himself, but Walters announced on Monday that the former Massachusetts governor cannot make it and cited “scheduling issues.” Washington Post noted that he was booked last month, after Mother Jones released Romney’s secret video on his controversial 47 percent comment.
On the first part of the interview, Barbara Walters mentioned that Ann Romney brought Joshua, one of her five sons, on the show. Walters said that her husband might not want to be there because the hosts are sharp-tongued. Mrs. Romney replied, “He said, ‘sharp and young'” and the audience laughed.
“The good news is, I’m not running for office, and I don’t have to say what I feel! But I am pro-life. I’m happy to say that Mitt has always been a pro-life person. He governed, when he ran, as pro-choice.” Ann told Barbara when asked on her views about her husband’s change of mind on abortion.
“But when a decision came across his desk…to use embryos for experimentation, he could not have [that] on his conscience, creating human life for experimentation. And that’s when he came out with an editorial saying he was pro-life.” The 63-year old Republican First-Lady hopeful added.
Later, Whoopi Goldberg asked Ann Romney about the Romney men’s military record, saying “As First Lady, if you get the job, it’s going to entail a lot of things, and one of those things is going to be talking to the mothers whose children are coming home in bags…I believe that your religion doesn’t allow you to go fight.”
“No, that’s not correct. We have many, many members of our faith that are serving in armed services…. and my five sons have also served missions…So we find different ways of serving, and my five boys and my husband did serve missions and did not serve in the military.” Mrs. Romney replied.
