As noted in British news sites that day, the cat ran across the pitch of the Anfield stadium during the first half of the football game between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, which was delayed for about 3 minutes and ended in a 0-0 draw.

Apparently, the gray-and-white cat ran towards Tottenham keeper Brad Friedel‘s goal and passes in front of Kop manager Kenny Dalglish, which was caught on video on live TV via Sky Sports, as it spent about a minute in the field.

Interestingly, a Twitter account (@AnfieldCat) was immediately created and poked fun on what happened with hashtags #anfieldcat and #meow and had thousands of followers instantly; and has over 24,100 followers as of this writing.

“enjoyed my quick run around on the hallowed anfield turf” The so-called Anfield Cat wrote on his first tweet, which was immediately followed by “I still got about the pitch quicker than @Charlie26Adam” referring to Liverpool and Scotland player Charlie Adam.

“a lot of copycat twitter accounts around, I can confirm this is the official.” Anfield Cat tweeted later, which seemed to be sounding territorial as there were other Twitter accounts claiming that they are for the famous cat.

“in my 3 minute cameo I’ve ran past more players than Stewart Downing has all season.” The kitty’s account noted later, making fun on a Liverpool team member.

“milk is so expensive at football stadiums, it’s an epic swindle” The famous cat tweeted about an hour ago, which was last seen being picked by an Anfield steward.
