Andy Whitfield, Star of ‘’Spartacus Blood and Sand’’ Passed Away because of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

Andy Whitfield, the TV star of the series ‘’Spartacus Blood and Sand’’ passed away on Sunday, September 11, at an early age of 39, according to entertainment news sites, September 12, 2011.

Reportedly, Whitfield died in the arms of his wife, Vashti, in Sidney, Australia.

Andy Whitfield played the famous Spartacus, the gladiator in the House of Batiatus, during the Roman Empire. The series was specifically tagged for adult viewing because of its gory and explicit scenes.

The story of Spartacus’ remarkable journey to become the famous gladiator, however, was so engrossing that ’Spartacus Blood and Sand’’ became an instant hit, internationally.

The first series ended with Andy Whitfield as Spartacus, together with his co-gladiators, staging a revolt causing the demise of the Roman rulers.

In the second season, Starz Entertainment had no choice but to hire a new Spartacus in the person of Liam McIntyre, because Andy Whitfield could no longer recover from his condition

According to news reports, Andy Whitfield’s wife, Vashti stated that her husband’s illness was non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
