As reported at ESPN Sports on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, LA Lakers’ Andrew Bynum released a statement apologizing to Dallas’ JJ Barea after hitting him on his ribs using his right forearm during their final game on Sunday.

“My actions … don’t represent me, my upbringing, this franchise or any of the Laker fans out there that want to watch us and want us to succeed,” Andrew Bynum was quoted as saying.

“Furthermore, and more importantly, I want to actually apologize to J.J. Barea for doing that. I’m just glad that he wasn’t seriously injured in the event and all I can say is, I’ve looked at [the replay], it’s terrible and it definitely won’t be happening again.” The 7-foot Lakers center added.

Apparently, JJ Barea was about to make a lay-up on the remaining 8:21 minutes in the fourth quarter when Andrew Bynum hit his ribs using his right forearm.

The Dallas forward, who only stands 6 feet tall, dropped on the floor and was hurt. Bynum, who stands 7 feet tall, was ejected from the game.

Meanwhile, Andrew Bynum told reports that he tried to contact JJ Barea so he can apologize to him personally but to no avail, noting that he will try to call him again.

Later, NBA announced that Andrew Bynum has been suspended for the first five games of the next NBA season and will be fined $25,000 for removing his jersey inside the court and left it there.

Last March, Bynum was also suspended for two games after he landed his right elbow on the chest of Minnesota Timberwolves’ Michael Beasley.
