Earlier in the show, Pia Toscano was joined by Stefano Langone and Jacob Lusk at the Bottom 3, and Ryan Seacrest later revealed that Jacob Lusk was safe while Pia and Stefano were left at the stage.

Moments later, Seacrest announced that Pia Toscano was voted off and shocked everyone in the audience, including the other American Idol 2011 finalists who were seen surprised.

Pia Toscano’s fans seem to have reacted and some of them even booed the announcement, while the three judges were said to be stunned too, as Jennifer Lopez appeared to have cried and told Ryan she has no idea what happened.

Later, judges Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler shared the same reactions with Lopez, as they along with the crowd gave a ovation for Pia Toscano.

On Wednesday, the American Idol 2011 Top 9 finalists went on to a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame songs showdown, and Pia was said to have received good reviews when she sang Tina Turner’s “River Deep, Mountain High”.

A few days later after the elimination night, American Idol EP Nigel Lythgoe said that Pia Toscano had no chance of winning ‘American Idol 2011’.
