As announced on the show on Thursday, April 14, 2011, Paul McDonald was eliminated and was the first male to be sent home, but the second male to be voted off.

Paul McDonald, 25, from Nashville, was not saved by the judges unlike what happened to Casey Abrams two weeks ago, who was given another chance despite being voted out.

Apparently, Paul McDonald was joined by Stefano Langone and Haley Reinhart on the Bottom 3 as Haley was the first one to be announced safe by Ryan Seacrest.

Later, Stefano Langone was announced safe, as the total votes cast were said to have reached to about 53 million, leaving Paul McDonald to be eliminated.

Nevertheless, teary eyed Judge Jennifer Lopez requested McDonald to sing Maggie May as his last song, which Paul rendered.

Meanwhile, American Idol Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson performed that night and sang her hit single “Don’t You Wanna Stay” with country singer Jason Aldean.

Before the final announcement, pop singer Rihanna sang her new ballad song ‘California King Bed‘ who was wearing a red-rose gown with her bright-red hair in loose waves.

With Pia Toscano eliminated last week that brought headlines, the remaining seven finalists are Stefano Langone, Haley Reinhart, Scotty McCreery, Jacob Lusk, James Durbin, Lauren Alaina, and Casey Abrams.
