Albino Snail Powelliphanta Found In New Zealand (Photo)

A group of hikers in New Zealand found a giant albino snail, various international news sites reported on Monday, December 5, 2011.

The giant albino snail, as shown below, was said to be at least 10 years old and believed to be a meat-eating snail.

“It is a rare albino giant Powelliphanta. It was seen by myself and some of the Waimea tramping club members. We were in the bush on the side of a walking track in Mt. Arthur area of Kahurangi National Park in New Zealand,” Maria Brooks, who took the picture above, was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

The Powelliphanta snail feeds on worms and slugs and other small creatures. They can live up to around 20 years, reports said.
