As shown live in local TV news before lunch that day, Alberto Lim announced his resignation as Tourism secretary in a brief Malacañang press conference and said he wanted to have more time with his family.

“I would like to announce that I have tendered my resignation as head of the Department of Tourism effective August 31, 2011,” Alberto Lim said on his brief speech.

“My reason for resigning is personal…I would like to spend more time with my family,” he added, noting that his position require a great deal of travel and time away from his loved ones.

Lim, who is the second cabinet member of President Noynoy Aquino (PNoy) to resign, thanked him for the opportunity given him to serve the Filipino people, with his resignation accepted by the president last Monday.

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that Lim‘s leadership at the Tourism department had an increase of over half a million visitors over the previous 12-month period.

In addition, Lacierda noted that an estimated 400,000 jobs were created by the increase of domestic travelers 25 to 28 million during Lim’s time; confirming that PNoy has yet to choose for his replacement.

The full context of Lim’s resignation letter as well as Lacierda’s statement can be found at the Official Gazette of the Philippines, the Philippine government’s official website.
