Alan Billis became the world’s first person to be mummified like Tutankhamun after over 3,000 years, according to reports by several international news sites on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.

The 61-year-old taxi driver volunteered his body before he succumbed to lung cancer last January. His body was treated with the techniques used by ancient Egyptians in mummifying pharaohs.

Forensic pathologist, Professor Peter Vanezis, led a team of experts from Sheffield’s Medico Legal Centre in mummifying Billis.

The body of Billis was kept at the Medico Legal Centre for further study. The mummification of Allan will be televised on US Channel 4 on Monday, October 24 at 9 p.m..
