The photo of the 2009 Air France black box or flight data recorder was shown by the BEA on Sunday, May 1, 2011, according to reports by several news sites.

In 2009, an Air France Flight 447 went down in the mid-Atlantic. The BEA was able to determine the flight black box of Flight 447 on Sunday morning.

Based on the photo shown by the BEA, the black box was contained in a red cylinder that was partially buried on the sea floor.

According to reports, the recovered black box will be the key in the determination of what caused the June 1, 2009 Air France Flight 447 airline crash.

The Air France airline reportedly departed from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is on its way to the capital city of France, Paris.

All 228 Air France passengers did not survive the crash during a thunderstorm in a remote Atlantic area.
