Adele’s rendition of “Someone Like You” has earned a standing ovation at the MTV Video Music Awards 2011, as reported by news sites, August 28, 2011. This performance is believed to have caused the song’s surge to the top of the US iTunes chart.

During the MTV VMA 2011, Adele sang “Someone Like You” with only a piano as accompaniment. Her rendition was so touching, that it has brought the house down. “Someone Like You” is a song about losing a loved one and accepting the sad truth. An excerpt of the song goes like this:

Never mind, I’ll find someone like you.

I wish nothing but the best, for you too.

Don’t forget me, I beg, I remember you said:-

“Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead”

Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead, yeah.

Someone Like You” has reigned number one in Australia, New Zealand, and in the UK, for the longest period of time. In Ireland it remained for 6 long weeks at the top of the charts. The song became the first single in the UK that has sold a million copies.

Adele’s career as a singer and a songwriter has now successfully penetrated the US mainstream media with her songs, the latest of which is “Someone Like You”.
