An acupuncture needle was found in the right lung of former South Korean President Roh Tae-woo. According to local news reports, May 3, 2011, the 6.5 cm acupuncture needle has to be removed through a surgical procedure.

Roh Tae-woo was the 13th president of South Korea from 1988 to 1993.

In 1979, he became a major general and supported the Gwangju Democratization Movement a year after and went on to be a staunch supporter of the group.

Now at 78, attending physicians could not explain how the acupuncture needle got to his right lung.

Tae-woo went to the hospital complaining of cough when the needle was discovered. He was reportedly released from the Seoul National University Hospital after a successful surgery.
