A 6.9 Magnitude Earthquake Struck Papua New Guinea

A powerful 6.9 magnitude earthquake shook Papua New Guinea on Thursday morning, another earthquake incident reported after the minor earthquake in New York last Tuesday.

According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake struck at a depth of 20 miles (32 kilometers), 37 kilometers northeast of Kandrian and Kimbe on the island province of New Britain.

Reports said that the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre issued a bulletin that says “no destructive widespread tsunami threat exists based on historical earthquake and tsunami data.”

Meanwhile, no casualties or damage has been reported yet. Seismologist said that they were still seeking information about the extent of any damage.
