The $99 tablet computer, HP TouchPad, was reportedly the second top-selling tablet computer in the US next to Apple‘s iPad, according to reports by several international news sites. Touchpad is a $99 tablet computer giveaway after HP decided to discontinue the product last August.

Market research company NPD Group reported that during the first 10 months of 2011, HP Touchpad accounted for 17 percent of the 1.2 million non-Apple tablets sold in the US from January to October.

HP Touchpad was able to moved ahead of Samsung Galaxy tablets, with 16 percent market share.

Asus tablets got a 10 percent market share, while Motorola Xoom and Acer tablets were tied with nine percent market share, NPD reports.

Top-selling Apple iPad sold over 11.12 million tablets during the last quarter of the year alone.

HP announced last August 18 that it was stopping production of the TouchPad and will discontinue the development of its Palm webOS operating system.
