At least 9 Filipino nurses were believed to have been trapped inside the CTV building after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake shook Christchurch in New Zealand on Tuesday at 12:51 p.m. (NZ time), as officials have revealed their identities.

As reported by ABS-CBN News on Wednesday, a Filipino nurse in New Zealand named Ariel Caballero told Ces Orena-Drilon that he received a call from a Filipino nurse who is being trapped inside the CTV (Canterbury Television) building.

Apparently, a Pinay nurse named Rhea May Sumalpong was said to be inside the CTV building now, and is asking for help.

“Tinanong ko po kung ok lang sila. Ok lang daw ang problema lang daw nila iyong legs nila. Sabi nila si Rhea, daw naipit daw ang kamay. Narinig lang daw nila yung boses ni Emmabelle,” Caballero told ABS-CBN News, adding that Emmabelle (Anoba) was also stuck in the same building.

(I asked them if they are fine. They said they are, and the only problem is that their legs were hurt. They said that Rhea‘s hand was ‘squashed’. They are just hearing the voice of Emmabelle.)

Rhea May Sumalpong and Emmabelle Anoba were said to be both studying English at King’s Education Limited, which is located at the 3rd floor of the CTV building.

In an earlier interview by ANC to Christchurch community head Dr. Rose Ruiz, she revealed the names of the 9 Pinoy nurses who were trapped inside the CTV building.

They are Rhea Sumalpong, Emmabelle Anoba, Ezra Mae Medalle, Jessie Lloyd Albaracin Redoble, John Chua, Jewel Francisco, Maria Luis Amantillo, Valquin Bensurto, and Ivy Jane Cabunila.

However, ABS-CBN News earlier reported that around 12 Pinoys were said to have been trapped inside the CTV building, as claimed by Philippine Consul General in Wellington, Marcos Punsalang.

Nevertheless, Punsalang said that a group will fly to New Zealand on Thursday and will coordinate to New Zealand authorities at once to check the status of Filipinos staying in the earthquake affected places, wherein DFA said that around 2,000 Pinoys are now in Christchurch and nearby areas.
